There is a wired network on the same subnet as a wired network, the router I use is a Netgear DG834G 4 port ADSL. It is very stable and can cope with torrents pretty well, it is fast and copes well. I'm on Pipex ADSL up to 8Mbit and sync at 8128Kbit/s so I get the full rate, the problem is that the upload is just 448Kbit/s which makes hosting this site a bit of a pain when the upload is maxed out it slows down web pages.
My main PC (Core2Duo @ 3700MHz) is connected to an 8 port switch via patch cable, this switch connects the Dell listed below also. My laptop and father's PC connect to the router via WiFi. I set each client PC to use the Dell as its DNS Server to make domain names resolve to their respective IP quicker.
Dell Optiplex GX110 - Windows 2003 Server
The
Dell Optiplex I have is a Pentium III 733MHz with an upgraded 512MB
of PC133. I have put a 200GB IDE Samsung hard disk drive in it for
backup storage space.
It is used to host this site and is a reliable machine, if you have one and are looking to upgrade the memory, the maximum RAM it can handle is 512MB, 2 sticks of 256. Try to get CL3 double sided as this works best with the chipset, I get no issues whatsoever with this PC running Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition with Active Directory, DNS, Mail Server and EasyPHP running. It had just 128MB before and this was not enough for what it is used for, it ran XP like a dog so I stuck the extra in and its totally useable, much much quicker than before.
It has VNC Server installed and I can connect to it through my main PC so I don't need to use the old CRT. It has its own keyboard and mouse also, because it wouldn't pass POST without a keyboard.
